ALAN AND ALI

Alan W. Smith was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1984.
He had already suffered from this for 8 years, when, in 1992,  he met Muhammad Ali, the ex world heavyweight champion, in Oxford.

At that time, the former champion had also been stricken with Parkinson’s disease.

Five years later, in 1997, when Alan was invited to Texas to participate in the TV Programme “Calling Dr. Whitaker,” he mentioned there that he was interested to see that this disease can strike even the strongest and the fittest one.

Back in England, he contacted the best British friend of Mr Ali, Paddy Monhaghan in Oxford and asked him to let the family of Mr Ali know about the Neurogenic Programme he had been following for the last year, because, he said, I am sure this treatment  would be able to help him tremendously.

Today, Alan still tries to contact his icon, Mr Ali. In February 2004, we recorded a video tape showing Alan, now at the age of 66, and having had Parkinson’s disease for 20 years by now, how he has regained his strength and is able to do 30 press ups in a row. He said in this video recording, “If I can now do these 30 press ups again, just imagine what Muhammed Ali would be able to do, if he gets the same results as I with the Neurogenic Programme.”

Foreword by
MUHAMMAD ALI

Friendship is a word I do not use lightly, but Paddy Monaghan and I have been friends since the early 1960s. He has a great story to tell, and I know that it has been written from the heart.
Some years ago we were speaking together on the phone, and he told me that he intended to write his autobiography, which would include the story of our great friendship, but that he would submit the manuscript to me for my approval before publishing it.
I said to him: "Paddy, I'll read it - yes - but I don't really need to until it's published. We are friends, and I know that anything you say or write will be one hundred percent the truth. So go ahead, 'me of sunshine."' That is the phrase with which he always greets me, and he was inspired to use it, in part, for the title of this book.
A great deal has been written about me, over the last thirty years or so. Some of it has been authentic, but just as much has been no more than highly-coloured imaginative fiction. Had I been in a position to check it all before it appeared in print, I can assure you that it would never have seen the light of day. But these pages are different.
Not only is Paddy my friend, he is my number one world fan, and my main man over there in Great Britain. From this man ... from his house . . . and from that little town in England came the title: "The People's Champ!"
It was then a title no-one had ever heard of before. Now it is known throughout the world.
I would like to be there with him for the launching of his book. May it be a great success.
